Tracing your Female Ancestors in Old Newspapers

Many of our genealogical brick walls are because we cannot trace where our female ancestors are descendant.

Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter pointed out an article in another newsletter, the WorldVitalRecords.com's Family History Bulletin, titled, Finding Your Female Ancestor in the Newspaper. by Gena Philibert Ortega.

One of the first tips is to look at the list of what to look for in newspapers that is in the book, A Guide to American Genealogy on page 564. «BTY: This book is in our PCGS Library at the FHC

There are numerous sources or places listed to find newspapers besides WorldVital Records.com. «BTY: A good but abridged version is available through the FHC Portal on the computers at the FHC.» The cultural role of women in a time and place are a consideration in searching newspapers. Obituary tips are also emphasised

The article closes with the caveat that tracing your female ancestors will require effort on your part and will not likely be too easy.
