The latest issue of Florida Lines has an update on the annual conference that is in mid-November in the North Orlando area this year. An earlier posting to this blog has additional details.
There is a long list of other things to see, if you are travel there with a person without genealogical interests and Mickey Mouse is not on the list.
Recently Dick Eastman's Genealogical Newsletter has discussed the high cost of conference affairs. I found lodging nearby the conference in a quality hotel at a most reasonable price. I am expecting free parking at the conference. The registration fee is reasonable with several meals and banquet included. Best of all is the vendor area, I can re-stock my genealogical supplies and sign-up for chances to win free stuff.
I agree conferences, either national, state or local, are a good place to meet with genealogy friends, and stock up with supplies. It is a good place to keep your eye on the prize............ the current news in the genealogy field.
ReplyDeleteI recommend it to people who are just starting their research to learn from the "masters', the speakers. The old adage of reinventing the wheel applies here.
And talk about prizes? I have won a free trip to the Mother of all research places, LDS Family History Center in Utah for 4 days. I have, also, won small prizes as books, genealogy programs, and other small gifts.
I have been blessed to be acquainted with nationally known speakers on a first name basis, nationally known professional officers of genealogy associations, and got to have John Colletta as a dinner partner once. So just how blessed is that?
So, do as Tom says, plan on going to a genealogy conference soon.
It will enrich your life.
