Descendants Gathered for Re-Interment

Alexander Macomb, Maj. General of the U.S. Army, was reburied with his wife, Catherine, in Washington's Congressional Cemetery. He was a hero of the War of 1812.

There was an article in the Washington Post, After 167 Years, Second Funeral for General, that describes the first and second services. You will need a free subscription to the Washington Post to read the article (you will be prompted.)

The general and his wife had 10 children and many descendants.

Why? -- The grave was disturbed to repair its monument.
